Welcome to Mexican Tiles Retreat
Cactus Quilt Shop is thrilled to announce our inaugural in-shop retreat. Join us for three days of fun and sewing! We will be making Mexican Tiles, designed by Karen Montgomery and featuring Counterpoint--a Sewposium Shop exclusive pattern and fabric! We will also be working on All That Miters as a practice project to introduce you to Counterpoint.
Your retreat fee includes Breakfast and Lunch all three days as well as snacks and drinks. We will host dinner on Monday and Tuesday evenings as a group. All the fabric and patterns for both projects is also included. Your retreat teachers will be Cactus Quilt Shop owner Lisa Ellis and our Education Co-ordinator Melody David-Baker. Both Lisa and Melody have quilted for many years and love working with quilters of all levels to improve their skills and enjoy the quilting community.
The pattern features two rulers from Creative Grids: Quarter Square Triangle Ruler (CGRT90) and Half Square Triangle Ruler (CGRMS4590). If you have these rulers in your quilting toolbox, please plan to bring them. Any ruler that will do quarter square or half square triangles (for example, Tucker Trimmer I from Studio 180) will work. The shop will have a few rulers to "try before you buy" at the retreat if you prefer. Your retreat discount will apply if you choose to purchase rulers during our three days together.
You will need a sewing machine. If your machine is too big to travel, please contact the shop. We have small machines available for rent for the retreat. Please email to let us know you need one. Rental is normally $25 per day but will be reduced to $20 per day for retreat attendees.
Travel and Accommodations are not included in your retreat fee. If you are traveling to Tucson, the Tucson International Airport is the closest airport to Cactus Quilt Shop. The airport is located approximately 30 minutes south of the shop. Lyft and Uber and Taxis are available. A rental car is not required if you choose to stay at Hampton Inn-Tucson Mall which is within a 5 minute walk of the shop.
Tucson Weather in October is fabulous. Highs will typically be in the mid to upper 80's and comfortable nights. Tucson is a dark skies city so it can be very dark with beautiful night skies. We recommend using your phone flashlight app or other light for walking back to the hotel in the evening.
If you choose the Down Payment option today, your card on file will be charged $259 plus taxes for the remaining balance on September 16, 2023.
